The PAN 2.0 Project enables technology driven transformation of Taxpayer registration services and has significant benefits including:
i. Ease of access and speedy service delivery with improved quality;
ii. Single Source of Truth and data consistency
iii. Eco-friendly processes and cost optimization; and
iv. Security and optimization of infrastructure for greater agility.

It may be noted that the Union Cabinet has approved the PAN 2.0 Project with an outlay of 1435 crores. The PAN 2.0 Project will enable the use of PAN as Common Identifier for all digital systems of specified government agencies.

One of the common questions raised was whether taxpayers will be required to reapply for PAN now?

It may be noted that existing PAN holders will not be required to reapply for PAN & they will get the above benefits of PAN 2 Project in their existing PAN nos.
