CBDT’s Extension Drama: Shameless in Denial, Painless in Governance
When the entire tax fraternity was crying hoarse about portal glitches, delays, and sleepless nights, what did CBDT say?
“Portal ekdum mast chal raha hai, koi problem hi nahi hai.”
This, my friends, is the new peak of bureaucratic shamelessness – an extension granted without humility, without acknowledgement, and certainly without respect.
Extension With Ego, Not With Empathy
Yes, the audit due date is extended from 30th September 2025 to 31st October 2025.
But instead of admitting hardships, CBDT pats its own back, claiming:
• Portal is stable.
• TARs are uploading fine.
• Everything is perfect.
In short, “Humne extension di kyunki tumne rona-dhona kiya aur Court ne zor dala, warna humari duniya toh bilkul perfect hai.”
This is not governance, this is gaslighting.
The Great Portal Myth
Every taxpayer knows the reality: frequent crashes, slow servers, mid-night retries, and technical glitches that even High Courts have acknowledged.
But CBDT, like a parent defending its pampered child, insists:
• “Portal kabhi galti nahi karta.”
• “Aap professionals hi efficient nahi ho.”
It is the equivalent of a teacher saying, “Sab students fail ho gaye toh kya hua, mera teaching toh perfect hai.”
Extension Mil Gayi, Respect Nahi
Let’s be clear – this is not a victory for taxpayers.
It is like someone slapping you, and then saying: “Chalo theek hai, ek glass paani le lo.”
The real insult is in the press release itself. Instead of admitting lapses, CBDT has chosen to humiliate taxpayers and professionals by denying the very existence of glitches.
Why Writ Petitions Must Continue
All those who filed writ petitions must not withdraw them. The date extension is one part of the fight – the insult to taxpayers is the bigger issue.
High Courts have already recognized technical glitches. By denying them, CBDT has effectively called taxpayers liars.
This cannot be allowed to pass. The writs must continue, not just for dates, but for dignity.
Where is the PMO?
The Prime Minister’s Office must step in.
Because what the bureaucracy is doing is damaging the government’s credibility.
This is the same government that has promised GST 2.0 and highlighted the ₹12 lakh benefit impact.
Yet CBDT, with its arrogance and shameless denial, is undoing the goodwill and painting an image of bad governance and careless administration.
The ITR Catch
Audit date is extended.
But ITR due date? Still 31st October 2025.
So, we are back to the classic Indian-style reform: one problem postponed, another waiting right around the corner.
Final Word
CBDT has managed to give us not just an extension, but also a lesson in bureaucratic arrogance.
• Extension mil gayi, respect nahi.
• Portal perfect, professionals defective.
• Infosys is their laadli, taxpayers are stepchildren.
This is not how governance should work. If CBDT really wants to serve taxpayers, it must drop the shameless denial and start listening to those who actually suffer.
Until then, we professionals will keep saying:
Audit Date Extended, ITR Deadline Still Doing Yoga at 31st October.
