In case of multiple consignments, for each shipment a separate CHIMS registration no. is required.

As per vide Notification No. 05/2015-20 dated 10th May 2021, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has amended import policy of Integrated Circuits and added policy condition for items covered under HS Code 85423100, 85423900, 85423200, 85429000 & 85423300 falling in chapter 85 of ITC (HS), according to which the import of items under the notified HS codes shall be “free subject to compulsory registration under Chip Imports Monitoring System (‘CHIMS’) w.e.f. 1st August 2021”.

In this backdrop, members of trade & industry have sought certain clarifications from DGFT with regard to CHIMS registration.

The, DGFT has issued Circular No. 40/2015-2020 dated 27th June 2022 stating that,

1. In case of multiple consignments, for each shipment a separate CHIMS registration no. is required. However, the importer may include multiple products in one registration number.

2. The CHIMS registration is also applicable on Air/Sea shipments. However, CHIMS registration can also be made on the same day of arrival of import.

3. Special exclusion is given to the items covered under HS Code 84733010 & 84733099 i.e., microprocessors & memory modules respectively from CHIMS registration.
