Urgent Request for Extension of Due Dates for Audit cases ITR Filing – AY 2025-26
To,
Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman Madam
Hon’ble Union Finance Minister
New Delhi
Subject: Urgent Request for Extension of Due Dates for Audit cases ITR Filing – AY 2025-26
Respected Madam,
On behalf of taxpayers, professionals, and industry stakeholders, we earnestly request an extension of the due date for filing Tax Audit Reports (TAR) and related returns under the Income-tax Act, 1961 for AY 2025-26 from the current deadline to 31st December 2025.
This request is made considering the following genuine and unavoidable difficulties faced across the country:
1. Delayed Release of Utilities & Forms: Several statutory forms and e-filing utilities have been released much later than usual, leaving very little time for professionals and taxpayers to complete audits in an accurate and timely manner.
2. Severe Flood Situations: Large parts of the country have recently been affected by floods, disrupting normal business activities and making compliance extremely challenging for affected taxpayers.
3. Clubbing of Multiple Deadlines: The already extended ITR due date for non-audit cases has shifted focus and created a bottleneck for audit case filings, compressing the compliance calendar for professionals.
4. Festive Season & Staffing Constraints: The upcoming festive season, including Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri, and Diwali, further reduces the available working days.
5. Overlapping Compliance Burden: Several other statutory due dates (such as GST filings, MCA filings, etc.) fall within the same period, putting tremendous pressure on compliance teams.
6. Re-Registration of Charitable Trusts: The due date for re-registration of charitable trusts and submission of their tax audit reports also falls in September 2025, further straining resources.
Considering the above, an extension of due dates till 31st December 2025 would provide much-needed relief, ensure quality and error-free audits, and ultimately improve compliance levels.
We humbly urge you to consider this as a matter of priority and announce the extension at the earliest, which will benefit the entire business and professional community.
We remain grateful for your continued support and proactive steps in easing compliance for taxpayers.
