No proposal to levy GST on UPI Transactions over ₹ 2,000 Government Clarfiied

 

Contrary to recent claims, the Government is NOT considering levying GST on UPI transactions over ₹ 2,000. This claim is completely false and without basis.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀
– No proposal for GST on UPI transactions is currently before the Government.
– GST is levied on MDR, which is currently zero for UPI transactions.
– The Government remains committed to promoting digital payments via UPI, with significant investments in incentive schemes.

𝗨𝗣𝗜 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆
– UPI transactions have grown exponentially, reaching ₹ 260.56 lakh crore by March 2025.
– India’s digital payments ecosystem is thriving, with 49% of global real-time transactions in 2023 (ACI Worldwide Report 2024).
