SOP for GST Registration Verification issued by Tamil Nadu GST Commissionerate

Tamil Nadu Commissionerate Issues SOP for GST Registration Verification. The Tamil Nadu Commissionerate has established a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to be followed by Joint Commissioners for every new GST registration to combat non-existent taxpayers and bill traders. The key points of the SOP include:
1.   Registered Post with Acknowledgement Due (RPAD):
·     Joint Commissioners are required to use RPAD services to ensure the authenticity of new taxpayers.

  1. Action by Joint Commissioners:
    ·        Download the bilingual ‘Welcome Letter’ draft from the portal.
    ·        Sign the ‘Welcome Letter’.
    ·        Send the ‘Welcome Letter’ to the taxpayer through RPAD.
  2. Follow-up by Registering Authority:
    ·        Monitor the delivery status of the ‘Welcome Letter’.
    ·        Ensure that the date of delivery is entered on the portal by the Joint Commissioner.

This SOP aims to improve the verification process for new GST registrations, ensuring that only legitimate taxpayers are registered.

The copy of the order is as under:

Circular No.4 2024 - TNGST-PP2-GST-15-29-2024 dated 16.05.2024 (1)
