Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) Implements Automated Return Scrutiny Module for GST Returns!

In a groundbreaking move, Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, has directed the swift rollout of an Automated Return Scrutiny Module for GST returns. This cutting-edge system has just been launched on the ACES-GST backend application for Central Tax Officers.

This game-changing module empowers officers to scrutinize GST returns of Centre Administered Taxpayers using non-intrusive compliance verification techniques. Leveraging data analytics and risk assessment, the system identifies discrepancies, and presents them to the tax officers for further action.

With this module, tax officers can seamlessly interact with taxpayers via the GSTN Common Portal. It facilitates effective communication of discrepancies through forms like ASMT-10 (displaying risks), ASMT-11 (receipt of taxpayer’s reply), and ASMT-12 (order of acceptance of reply).

It also allows for the initiation of show cause notices, audits, or investigations when required. The implementation of this Automated Return Scrutiny Module has already begun, starting with the scrutiny of GST returns for the financial year 2019-20.

The officers’ dashboard has already been equipped with the necessary data for a smooth transition. Stay tuned for an era of enhanced compliance and efficient tax administration. The future of GST returns scrutiny is here!
