Writ need to be entertained only in exceptional circumstances like Breach of fundamental rights, Violation of the principles of natural justice etc: Supreme Court
Supreme Court in the case of Assistant Commissioner of State Tax and Others Vs Commercial Steel Limited has laid down the parameters for entertaining a writ application. It has held that existence of an alternate remedy is not an absolute bar to the maintainability of a writ petition under Article 226 of the Constitution.
However, it has remarked that writ can be entertained only in exceptional circumstances like when there is:

Breach of fundamental rights;

Violation of the principles of natural justice;

An excess of jurisdiction; or

Challenge to the vires of the statute or delegated legislation.
