80,000 people who do not file returns after the Demonetization on the radar: CBDT

On this occasion, he informed that the Income Tax department has identified 80 lakh people who have filed their returns during the last three years. But this time so far has not filed the returns. Chandra said that after the ban was imposed in November 2016, it has helped increase the tax base in the country. He said that the direct tax has also increased net revenue of the country by direct taxation.

Chandra said, “Direct taxes contributed 52 per cent and indirect taxes contributed 48 per cent last year.” He said that after many years it has happened that the contribution of direct taxes has been more than indirect taxes. What did help from notebook? Replying to this question, Chandra said, ‘I will say that money has come in bank accounts. It has made it easy for us to find out how many people have deposited the money, but did not submit their returns.

Chandra said that notices were sent to three lakh people who did not file returns after the note-off. These were constitutional notices. 2.25 lakh people submitted the return after the notice. However, 80 thousand people have not submitted the returns so far. After this the department is behind them.
